Open Research “Machine learning with quantum computers”
Con Davide Pastorello, ricercatore al Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Scienza dell’Informazione, Università di Trento
Quantum computers are machines used to perform calculations exploiting the extremely counterintuitive quantum phenomena which characterize the physics of microscopic systems like molecules, atoms, electrons, photons. The availability of the first working prototypes makes quantum computing under the spotlight of an intense scientific investigation in order to further improve and apply this new technology. In particular quantum machine learning (QML) is a rapidly emerging research area where quantum computing techniques are applied to machine learning tasks in order to pursue computational advantages in view of the present context of ever-growing amounts of data to manage. QML is currently a hot topic within the scientific communities working on quantum technologies. It attracts interests also from industries and non-academic institutions which are excited by the idea of dealing with big data running machine learning algorithms on quantum computers.
This session is devoted to an introductory discussion about the research activity on quantum computing and quantum machine learning at DISI
